INTERVIEWS: LAUREN MASON

M: How we doing lauren ?

L: Yeah im cool thank you

M: We've been asking artists to give last year marks out of ten, your marks please?

L: ERRRRRM.. i would say 7/10, I achieved a lot but looking forward to up the marks in 08!

M: What was your highlight of 07?

L: Just meeting and working with the people that i did! Working with Scorcher insipred me a lot !

M: I think it’s fair to say last year was a break through year for you, what do you feel

Was the reason behind that?

L: I dont really see last year as my break through year, probably because there are still loads of people that dont know about my music. I feel that when i do release my album that will be the real break through for me.

Dont get me wrong 07 was amazing.. but 08 is year of the blonde (Laughs)

M: You collaborated with a lot of big names including Sway, How did that come about

And what’s the track about?

L: Terror Danjah arranged for me to go studio to meet him while he was recording for his album, i brought a few of my tracks and played them to him, he was particularly amused by the song i did about my ex boyfriend and i got a text from him a week later inviting me to feature on a track for hs album! I was well shocked! The track is so funny! If it makes the album you'll see why! Sway's a story teller!

M: Everyone has their own opinions on females in grime but do you feel being female has helped you

get noticed in the scene?

L: yes but i like to think my originality helped me even more! There are loads of "typicals" in the grime scene im not trying to be anyone but me!

M: I know plenty of mc's that think they can sing (believe me!!), Do you ever feel like taking the guys on at their

own game by spitting some bars?

L: (Laughs alot!!) No! , I'll will leave the Mc'ing to the MC's...

untill someone try's it (Laughs).

M: I’ve heard Keeping it Blonde has now become an album project, can you tell us the concept behind the album

and any of the artist that will feature on it?

L: Keepin it blonde is my introduction to music, so i tried to make the cd as personal as i could.The concepts are very true to life no hidden agendas! I've recorded so many tracks! and a few featuring artists. At the moment we are just deciding whch ones to use, so you'll have to cop it and see! sorry (Laughs)

M: If you could only listen to one CD from last year for a month what CD released in 07 would you pick?

Ahhhhhhhhhh just one !? Well if it was from the grime scene i would say Ghetto Gospel or Playtime is Over,

I loved both CD's.

M: What artist would you like to work with in 08?

L: Rapid

M: If you could arrange a clash between two grime mc's who would they be?

L: Dizzee Vs Wiley, I think that could get messy !

M: Apart from your album are there any other projects you've planned to release this year?

L: So far im just recording my second album and doing collabs for other albums. BUT! You never know.
